Baseband and Broadband

Baseband transmissions utilize the full capabilities of the medium. The transmission is a single channel of digital signaling. Using a MUX allows for multiple devices to send signals using a single medium for transmission.

Broadband transmissions are split over multiple channels. This is accomplished by Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM). Excellent for WAN technology.
